Teaching runs through Andy’s veins. His mum was a schoolteacher, so Andy was fascinated with how to facilitate learning from a young age. When he graduated from university where he studied for a Russian degree, he travelled to Japan to teach English for a year before moving to Minsk, Belarus. As well as teaching English here, he worked as a translator for five years until 1999.
When he returned to the UK, Andy set up a business training dentists and doctors communication skills, to manage stress, and deal with difficult or anxious patients. He started working with McCrudden Training in 2016 continuing similar kinds of subject areas.
Andy is a strong believer that his work as a translator and trainer have the same foundation – communication. He loves the moment the penny drops, that moment when you are speaking a foreign language and you get the ‘aaaahhhh’ moment, when everyone understands when we’re all connected. It’s the same in teaching. For Andy that’s a day or hour well spent – making change happen.
Another connection for Andy is humour and laughter. Fun shouldn’t be considered a rest from training, that’s when things are really happening at the core of the learning process. You can’t fake laughter – when it happens, everyone is connected.
